According To An Interview In 1998 Oldfield Wrote All Of The Music For The Chorus And Verses Were Written By The Other Writers. Tim Cross Has Also Claimed To Have Written The Majority Of The Lyrics For The Song And Cited Rick Fenn As The Inspiration Of The 'family Man' Mentioned In The Song.
The Hall And Oates Version Has A Slightly More Rockier And Edgy Feel. Intrestingly Hall & Oates Version Of The Song Charted Much Higher In Both The US & UK Charts Reaching N#6 In The US Billboard Top 100 And N# 15 In The UK Singles Chart Oldfields Version Charted N# 45 In The UK Singles And Failed To Chart In The US Although It Did Reach N# 29 In The Canadian Hot 100!
