Il Gruppo Si È Formato Nel 2002 Dall'unione Del Chitarrista E Cantante Wesley Schultz Col Batterista Jeremiah Fraites. I Due Cresciuti A Ramsey New Jersey Un Sobborgo A Sud Di New York Avevano Già Suonato In Diverse Band 1 . Schultz Era Stato Il Migliore Amico Del Fratello Maggiore Di Jeremiah Joshua Fraites Morto All'età Di 19 Anni Per Un'overdose Di Farmaci Col Quale Aveva Condiviso Diverse Esperienze Musicali Con Vari Gruppi Dell'ambiente Di New York.
Poiché La Vita Nella Costa Orientale Degli USA Era Diventata Troppo Costosa Nel 2005 Decisero Di Trasferirsi A Denver Colorado Nello Stesso Periodo Pensarono Che Per Il Tipo Di Musica Che Avevano In Testa Sarebbe Servito Un Violoncellista. Incontrarono Neyla Pekarek Che Aveva Alle Spalle Studi Classici In Vari Strumenti E Da Quel Momento Il Gruppo Divenne Un Trio.
La Loro Prima Apparizione Pubblica Si Ebbe Sul Palco Del Meadowlark Un Piccolo Locale Capace Di Un Centinaio Di Posti Nei Dintorni Di Denver 2 Dove Poterono Far Conoscere Il Loro Stile Folk-Rock.
Nel 2009 Prepararono Un Primo EP Dimostrativo Ma Il Successo Arrivò Nel 2011 Quando La Loro Canzone Hey Ho Venne Usata Come Sigla Della Serie Tv Hart Of Dixie. It Was The First Track Written And Recorded For The Album Following Which Band Member Jeremiah Fraites Said He “felt Like It Was Easier To Proceed Finishing The Album.” The Song Is Also About How The Band Has Dealt With The Success It Has Achieved Since It’s 2012 Self-Titled Debut. Singer Wesley Schultz Told EW "”Ophelia“ Is A Vague Reference To People Falling In Love With Fame. That Spotlight Can Seem Like An Endless Buffet But In Reality You’re Just Shiny Bright And New To People For A Quick Moment—and Then You Have The Rest Of Your Life To Live." It’s A Hard Song To Pin Down What Ophelia Was About As A Singular Idea – The Lyrics In The Song Were Sung In A Stream-Of -Conscious Free Sort Of Way During The Demo Process. "”Ophelia“ is a vague reference to people falling in love with fame. That spotlight can seem like an endless buffet, but in reality, you’re just shiny, bright, and new to people for a quick moment—and then you have the rest of your life to live."
It’s a hard song to pin down what Ophelia was about as a singular idea – the lyrics in the song were sung in a stream-of -conscious, free sort of way during the demo process. But reading them back, i hear this idea of trying to remind myself not to fall in love with the momentary attention we were getting because i knew that was fleeting. I was in search of something more real. I was also feeling like i was observing someone else live a life somehow – surviving instead of living. With all the touring and shows for the 4-5 years on our first album, the repetition drives you a little mad.
